Desenvolvido pela Novaer em parceria com a empresa Calidus, dos Emirados Árabes Unidos, o B-250 é uma das principais atrações do Dubai Air Show, que termina nesta quinta-feira (16 de novembro), em Dubai.
Novaer came up with an all-carbon fibre design offering reduced weight, improved manoeuvrability and autonomy, and an extended service life, according to Calidus. Ballistic protection is available if required. The aircraft offers maximum autonomy of 12 hours and a top speed of 301kts (557km/h).
The B-250 has been part of the Bader programme that originated in 2015 with a range of partners including Brazilian company Novaer, the provider of the aircraft’s structure, and Rockwell Collins, the manufacturer of the onboard avionics system with its Pro Line Fusion technology.

The B-250 – previously designated the Bader – was designed in collaboration with the Brazilian vendor Novaer and Rockwell Collins in the U.S. Novaer was responsible for the B-250’s airframe. In fact, the lead designer of the B-250 was Joseph Kovács, who also designed the Embraer Tucano, that reported by Aviation Week.

The single-engined B-250, which was unveiled at the Dubai Airshow running from 12 to 16 November, is a tandem twin-seat aircraft that is built around the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite.
Pro Line Fusion is already operational on a number of different platforms, including business jet, air transport, tilt-rotor and military flight decks. The system has also been successfully demonstrated for use as a ground control station for unmanned aerial system (UAS) applications.
Developed under conditions of some secrecy in just 20 months, the B-250 has been designed by Novaer at São José dos Campos, near São Paulo, under the leadership of Joseph Kovács, who created the Embraer Tucano. The B-250 draws on Kovács’s work in producing the redesigned Golden Aircraft/US Aircraft Corporation A-67 Dragon, but incorporates significant elements of composite structure. It has a stepped tandem cockpit and is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-68 that develops 1,600 shp.
Manufacturers of these aircraft claim that by virtue of using turboprop engines (particularly the ubiquitous PT6A-series), these aircraft have lower operating costs, yet they – like costlier fast jets such as the F-16 – can deploy precision-guided munitions for CAS and targeted strike engagements in asymmetrical and low-intensity threat environments, such as COIN.
The B-250 is claimed to be “the first military fighter ever developed in the UAE”, but it has been co-developed with Brazil’s Novaer, and is understood to have been designed by that company’s Hungarian-born chief designer, Joseph Kovács.
The all-new, multirole strike and surveillance aircraft was developed over only a two-year period in conjunction with Brazilian aerospace company Novaer.
Surrounded by weapons which can be hung on its seven hardpoints, and additionally fitted with an electro-optical sensor turret under the forward fuselage, the B-250 is offered for close air support; intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance; counter-insurgency; and advanced training.

The first prototype of the T-Xc Project demonstrates the great qualities of the advanced composite materials used in aircraft construction, which give lightness and contribute to the optimal performance of the airplane.
Like the current trainer of the Brazilian Air Force Academy (AFA), the T-27 Tucano, the choice of the NOVAER aircraft’s name was defined through a contest involving all the employees of the AFA. The idea of the competition came both to honor the aviators and students of the Academy, as well as to remember a tradition started in the 80s, when it fell to the AFA’s effective to choose the name of the, today world-renowned, Tucano.
October 23rd is a significant date to the Brazilian aeronautic, for it represents the “Day of the Aviator” and the “Day of the Brazilian Air Force”, alluding to the first flight of Santos Dumont with the 14 BIS.
The event gathered hundreds of families and brought to the public a series of entertainment, including the exhibition of airplanes and helicopters, flight presentations and skydiving, among many other cultural attractions.
The company also demonstrated the variety of products that can emerge from the same platform, for example, an aero medical version suited for rescue and transportation in hostile regions or for harvesting of organs for transplant, a small load transporter or liaison aircraft to be used by the armed forces, and a turboprop military trainer with ejection seats (T-Xc MTP), aside from the known civilian transport version (with ballistic parachute) and the primary-basic military trainer, which NOVAER intends to offer to the Brazilian Air Force and other air forces of the continent and the world.
The company, which in coming months will be based in the city of Lages, develops the military trainer T-Xc, its civilian version U-Xc and new landing gear of the T-27 Tucano, among other projects.
This inspiring visit left us with many good things, among them the wise advices of someone who has gone on a huge entrepreneurship adventure in Brazil, founding EMBRAER back in the 70’s.
On September 2nd, NOVAER representatives met with the Commander of the Brazilian Air Force LT. Brig. Juniti Saito to present an updated status of the T-Xc program, reporting the completion of the prototype and the first successful flight of the aircraft, which occurred on August 22.
Novaer informs that it has received, last Tuesday (September 2nd) at the opening of the 3rd Brazil Defense Expo, the illustrious visit of the Brazil’s Minister of Defense, his Excellency Mr. Celso Amorim.
Novaer intends to offer the product to the Defense market, as a primary-basic military trainer, and to the civilian market, with a four place utility (transport) version and instruction for flight schools.
According to the the company CEO, Graciliano Campos, the next steps are the certification and industrialization of the aircraft.
The T-Xc prototype manufactured by Novaer Craft made its debut flight today, August 22nd, 2014. The aircraft took off at 11:30 AM from the São José dos Campos airport (SBSJ).
Attending the event at the headquarters of the Defense Ministry in Brasilia were the CEO of Novaer, Graciliano Campos, and the members of the Board of Directors, Paulo Cesar da Costa and Paulo Junqueira, to receive from the Director of the Department of Defense Products, Major Brig. Jose Euclides da Silva Gonçalves, the certificate of Strategic Defense Company.
Novaer held last week, on March 31st, the Roll Out ceremony for the T-Xc aircraft’s first prototype. The event, which took place in the very own hangar where the aircraft was built, was attended by military officials, civilian authorities, Novaer employees, and partners on the project.
Born in Bauru, in 1931, Silva was colonel at the Brazilian Air Forces, graduated in 1962, earned a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Science from the California Institute of Technology, in 1966 . Soon after, in 1970, became the first president of Embraer.
On February 25 FINEP released the final result of the plan and Novaer fell within the “Category 1” (Aerospace) and was approved in the modalities: Refundable, Economic Subsidy and ICT/Company Cooperation, together with the CERTI Foundation and ITA.
Novaer, just as it has been doing in the past editions of the fair, will mark its presence in FIDAE 2014 with a stand at the Brazil Pavilion and will bring the latest photos, videos and news about the production of the test prototypes and certification of the T-Xc aircraft.
